Helping You Nourish Without Guilt, Diets, or Confusion

You're a smart, capable person who has counted, tracked, and restricted in hopes of feeling better in your body.

But instead of peace, you’ve found yourself stuck: confused by nutrition advice online, frustrated by food rules, and exhausted from binge-restrict cycles.

You’re not alone, and you're not the problem.

Hi, I’m Heather!

Founder of Behind The Plate

I help folks who feel stuck in cycles of dieting, bingeing, and body shame rebuild trust with food and their bodies, without guilt, confusion, or restriction.

I do this work because I’ve been there. I know what it’s like to feel at war with your body, to try every trick in the book to feel in control, and still come up short.

I'm a Registered Dietitian and Certified Intuitive Eating Counsellor with over six years of private practice experience, including specialized support for individuals recovering from eating disorders.

What started as a kitchen table side hustle has become a thriving practice that’s helped hundreds of people find peace with food.

The name “Behind the Plate” began as a sports reference, but now it means something more: my small but mighty team and I support what happens behind the scenes… behind your plate, behind your choices, behind your relationship with food.

My Story

FROM DIET CULTURE TO DIETITIAN

I was nine years old the first time I wanted to shrink my body. At sixteen, I cut carbs. By twenty, I was counting every calorie and tracking every bite. Looking back, I see how deeply I was entrenched in disordered behaviours, and how normal those behaviours were in the world around me.

THE TURNING POINT

Everything shifted in my mid-twenties. Through fitness, feminism, and self-compassion (while earning my degree in science), I discovered intuitive eating, Health At Every Size, and the body positivity movement. These helped me rewrite the story in my head.

WHY THIS WORK MATTERS

When I became a dietitian, I vowed to help others find the same freedom I did, not through rigid plans or shame, but through education and individualized care. I want food to feel nourishing, not stressful. I want you to feel at home in your body, not at odds with it.
