Feeling the Fear and Doing it Anyway

Wow, did I just enter Pinterest level cheesiness with that title?


Yes, yes, I did, because let’s face it, sometimes you need a good “Inspirational Quote” from Pinterest to push, no, SHOVE you in the right direction.


For many reasons, I am feeling the fear in launching this blog, website and my private practice. This fear has been holding me back for a long time. This comes from being Type A, like most Dietitians, and feeling like I’m not following the “typical” career path that so many of the RD’s I admire have walked before me. Luckily, through the power of the internet and podcasts, I've opened my eyes to the growing world of private practice and entrepreneurship, especially for dietitians.

I’m doing it anyway because it excites me and my inner voice wouldn’t stop telling me to do it.

I have big plans for Behind the Plate and my future. I am excited to share my experiences, beliefs and approach to nutrition with you. Check out the ABOUT section to learn more.


I plan to use this platform to provide evidence-based nutrition information that you can understand and trust.


Here’s what you can expect from Phase 1 of Behind the Plate Blog (at minimum):


1. One Reflective Blog post per month

Where I talk about my own experiences becoming a RD and as a RD


2. One Informative Blog post per month

Where I debunk nutrition myths, provide quick tips and many more!


3. One new recipe per month

This one is quite self-explanatory, but I figure I’m already trying out recipes in my own kitchen… might as well share them with you too!


Why private practice?

It was in my ten-year plan when I was in my final year as an undergrad student. As fate would have it, my first job was in business and a private-practice-like setting, the perfect learning opportunity.


I LOVED seeing clients in this capacity. I did, however, want to have the opportunity to shape my own business the way I wanted to. Fast forward to now and I'm officially launching Behind the Plate.


The blog is an area of passion for me. I have loved writing for as long as I can remember.


As a university student, I got pretty good at writing academic papers, which I still believe to be my strong suit. Now, I want to explore a more free and reflective style, one that allows me to express my personality. This scares me and excites me. This will be a learning curve but I’m feeling the fear and doing it anyway.
